The White Issue
Anyone who is a fan of the Beatles knows that the White Album was the quintessential album by the Fab Four. With songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney at the height of their creative powers, the album was mysterious, complex and artistic -- an instant legend in rock and roll history.
IT Defense is trying to create its own “publishing classic” by taking its first stab at a “White Issue,” publishing white papers from companies wishing to contribute their expertise on IT security.
A white paper is an authoritative report, and for these purposes on topics ranging from network security to new technology. White papers are used to help people make decisions. Many white papers today espouse the benefits of or explain particular technologies.
White papers have their roots in government documentation. It is called a white paper because originally these were thin documents quickly bound in white paper without a formal cover, as opposed to the blue bindings of most government reports.
In the future, we will be calling on you to contribute white papers. Or if you have an interest in submitting a white paper for the 2007 White Issue, please contact IT Defense.
Besides the white paper contributions from Arcsight, I-Trap and Technology Pathways, this issue also features articles on Network Access Control, Data Protection in an IP world, and Network Response and Remediation.
Enjoy the issue
