Inside Current Issue: Editor's Letter

Convergence of Physical and IT Security
One of the most important issues in the computer security industry is the convergence of physical and IT security. This issue is having a dramatic impact on security and IT departments, human resources, and management. Physical security emphasizes the protection of an organization’s physical assets, facilities and employees, which usually involves monitoring the flow of assets and people into, out of, and within an organization.

IT security concentrates on the protection of an organization’s computer systems, networks and databases, which involves managing human access and the flow information into, out of, and within an organization’s networks. These two areas have always been considered two separate domains and seldom do they cooperate smoothly. Longtime IT Defense columnist Jim Stickley once referred to this situation as “When Worlds Collide.”

Also in this issue:
  • SOX Wish List: Extended Deadline, Extended Opportunity by Robert Ciampa
  • Planning for Cyber Breaches Leads to Top Response by By Axel Tillman
  • A conversation with Chris Andrew of PatchLink, discussing how to prepare for Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday

  • I hope you enjoy the issue. At IT Defense, we always welcome your feedback with a letter to the editor. Thanks.

    Regards,
